Update regarding Cavenham Quarry Planning Permission

Ben Humphries has shared a statement following his recent meeting with SRC Group.

Dear Residents,

I wanted to share an update following recent questions about the planning application submitted by SRC Group for the quarry. Please see below a summary of the key points raised so far:

Traffic and Vehicle Movements

The data used in the application is based on 2019 traffic levels, which reflect the highest (pre-Covid) figures—effectively a worst-case scenario.

The proposal would add around 20 additional HGV movements per day, which works out at roughly 1–2 vehicles per hour.

Importantly, this falls within the quarry’s current permitted daily limits, so overall lorry numbers are not expected to increase beyond what’s already allowed.

Highways and Road Safety

We are still waiting on a formal response from Suffolk Highways, so at this stage it’s unclear whether any further traffic or safety surveys will be needed.

We’ll keep you informed as soon as we receive further updates from the County Council.

Site Infrastructure

A weighbridge has now been installed on-site, which has already helped improve health and safety by preventing overweight vehicles from entering or leaving.

The batching plant has not yet been built. When that stage begins, the silos will be delivered in parts—this is expected to require no more than 4–5 lorry loads in total.

Impact on Nearby Homes

Historic England has made no comment regarding the potential impact of quarry operations on local properties. If residents are concerned about any structural issues or long-term effects, they may wish to contact Historic England directly.

Community Benefit

I will be writing a proposal to SRC Group to explore potential funding or support for local community projects. This is something we hope can offer some direct benefit to the village, should the development proceed.

To all residents of Cavenham and other interested parties,

I write to inform you that a formal consultation is being arranged with SRC to discuss the recent planning application and its potential impact on the village of Cavenham and the surrounding areas.

As Chairman of the Cavenham Parish Meetings, I am committed to ensuring that all concerns are properly documented and raised during this consultation. To this end, I kindly request that any detailed concerns or representations be submitted in writing via email to: Cavenham.chair@gmail.com.

Submissions will be collated and presented in an organised and respectful manner, in keeping with the seriousness and sensitivity of the matter at hand. It is our intention to conduct this process with the highest level of formality and transparency, in the best interests of our village and its future.

Notice of Roadworks

There will be roadworks (Kerbing works) taking place in The Street, Cavenham from Wednesday the 4th of June to Friday the 13th of June between the times of 8am and 5pm.

There will be two way temporary traffic lights setup during the duration of the works.
