Please see update
I would like to take the opportunity to advise, on the week commencing 23rd February, we have a project which entails transporting approximate 50 loads per day from Bury to Cavenham.
We will of course try our upmost to ensure minimal movements as possible, and of course all drivers are fully aware of ensuing we are driving in a safe and appropriate manner at all times and in particular if having to enter or exit via the village.
Update: We have expressed our frustration and upset over the volume of HGV’s in our village and have requested they divert the traffic via the council recommended “Local Access Lorry Routes” (see attached). In response they have passed the request onto their transport planners.

We have been in contact with SRC Group who operate at the Cavenham Quarry regarding concerns of the Lorry traffic.
They have informed us they have been monitoring the lorries that go through our village and checking if they adhere to the speed limits. They have sent us a report saying they found 0 cases of speeding lorries from their fleet and will continue to work with the Parish Council to ensure this continues.
There has been a power cut in Cavenham due to a line down in Icklingham
Message from the Chairman
We will be arranging a meeting with SRC to discuss their planning applications and the potential effects these may have on our village.
I encourage all residents to use this forum, as well as the parish website, to suggest any items you would like included on the agenda. Your input will help ensure that the meeting reflects the concerns and priorities of our community.
Warm regards,
Ben Humphreys

Ben Humphries has shared a statement following his recent meeting with SRC Group.
Dear Residents,
I wanted to share an update following recent questions about the planning application submitted by SRC Group for the quarry. Please see below a summary of the key points raised so far:
Traffic and Vehicle Movements
The data used in the application is based on 2019 traffic levels, which reflect the highest (pre-Covid) figures—effectively a worst-case scenario.
The proposal would add around 20 additional HGV movements per day, which works out at roughly 1–2 vehicles per hour.
Importantly, this falls within the quarry’s current permitted daily limits, so overall lorry numbers are not expected to increase beyond what’s already allowed.
Highways and Road Safety
We are still waiting on a formal response from Suffolk Highways, so at this stage it’s unclear whether any further traffic or safety surveys will be needed.
We’ll keep you informed as soon as we receive further updates from the County Council.
Site Infrastructure
A weighbridge has now been installed on-site, which has already helped improve health and safety by preventing overweight vehicles from entering or leaving.
The batching plant has not yet been built. When that stage begins, the silos will be delivered in parts—this is expected to require no more than 4–5 lorry loads in total.
Impact on Nearby Homes
Historic England has made no comment regarding the potential impact of quarry operations on local properties. If residents are concerned about any structural issues or long-term effects, they may wish to contact Historic England directly.
Community Benefit
I will be writing a proposal to SRC Group to explore potential funding or support for local community projects. This is something we hope can offer some direct benefit to the village, should the development proceed.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Parish Council if you have further questions or feedback. We’re continuing to monitor the situation and will do our best to keep everyone updated as things progress.
Kind regards,
Ben Humphreys
